Education & Work

Hello wonderful humans! My name is Amanda Lin. I am an educator, artist, designer, writer, meditator, and overall multifaceted human being. I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre for Young Audiences from San Diego State University and a Master of Fine Arts in Fashion Design from Academy of Art University in San Francisco. I have been an educator for over 20 years and worked with students ages 2–adult, using creative arts to connect on a basic human level. My journey as a lifelong learner, creator, educator, and spiritual being has taught me that the act of engaging in the arts can be a healing process as much as it is a creative one. My philosophy as an educator stems from my time as an educator at Barron Park Preschool where learning is an open-ended, play-based, student-lead, collaborative experience. I am here to own my gifts as a creative artist and serve the community as an art educator and mindful whole hearted human being.

the things you look at change.

Me & my moms

My Story

THE JOURNEY CONTINUES... I am almost 5 in this photo. These are my two moms. My birth mom Tammy (on the left) and her oldest sister Nita, the mom who raised my younger sister and me (on the right). I was born and raised in the Bay Area and am currently living in San Francisco, with a best friend whom I’ve known since I was 5 years old. My childhood story is rather a miraculous one, filled with life-altering events early on, generous relatives, and glorious friendships that shape me to this day. I AM: A motherless daughter. A granddaughter who misses all of her grandparents. A beloved younger and older sister. A proud auntie of the most amazing humans. A niece to a bunch of talented, creative & brilliant weirdos.  A best friend whose life is richer because of my friends' existence. A spiritually grounded being who can both struggle with and joyfully observe the unfolding of the present moment. An educator, artist, designer, writer, seamstress, woman and wholehearted human being. A lover of quality time over crowds.   Both charismatic and outgoing while relishing my solitude.  A deep thinker, intuitive and empathic being. Silly, weird and very authentic. A really good cook! A person who has known deep unfathomable sorrow and beautifully profound joy. I LOVE: Children as much as they love me. Listening, learning, and discovering. Matcha. Deeply and truly. The human journey as much as I can be annoyed by it too. Driving, road trips, camping, sleeping in my car, and picking up rocks wherever I go. Art, artists, poetry, reading, writing, plays, and theatre. The design process and making a garment from scratch. That my grandma taught me how to sew! Dressing up in random costumes for whatever reason. Playing video games and board games and watching movies with my friends. Making bulleted lists. Binge-watching subtitled fantasy Korean and Chinese soap operas. Creating with my best pals! Engaging in authentic, vulnerable ways with others. My creative space and what I am in the act of creating here with Create & Elevate Events.

"Realize deeply that  the present moment is all you ever have."

Beginning again... and again...

WHERE DID IT ALL BEGIN? My mom and my Grandma Arla sowed the seeds of my spiritual journey as they instilled the importance of mind over matter, the power of our thoughts in our body, and the peace that comes with tuning inward. I was about 6 or 7 when my mom taught my sister and I how to meditate. She was always telling me, “Mandy, be here. Be now.” And here I am now, grounded in the present moment, feeling my way through each intersection and leading with love. I engage in some kind of mindful practice everyday whether that is meditation, drawing or painting, listening to podcasts, journaling, reading, walking, yoga, or just being still. WHAT IS WELLNESS FOR ME? Breathing slowly and intentionally so as to be acutely aware of my body and the space around me.  Calling my sister. Dancing it out. Crying when I need to. Laughing with my best friends Matcha, always matcha. Sometimes drinking a dang glass of wine and calling it a night. Listening to books or podcasts that remind me that being human is okay. PODCASTS I LISTEN TO: We can do Hard things with Glennon Doyle Magical Lessons with Elizabeth Gilbert Dr. Wayne W. Dyer Podcast AUDIO BOOKS I LISTEN TO: Heart Minded by Sarah Blondin The Art of Gathering by Priya Parker In Praise of Difficult Women by Karen Karbo Wellness to me is also, expressing what is true for me with authenticity and gratitude. WHAT AM I GRATEFUL FOR? An aunt who became my mom when my birth mother passed away. For a sister who has become my very best friend. My brother who calls to read me his poetry and makes me laugh. For the very best friends who love and support me in all of the ways imaginable. For Barron Park Preschool where I became an educator and was able to nourish the seeds my mom had planted in my soul about love, learning, and creativity. Myself for persevering and owning my gifts.

"The artist is a receptacle for emotions that come from all over the place: from the sky, from the earth, from a scrap of paper, from a passing shape, from a spiders web."
- Pablo Picasso
